Medifast at Work

by Jason Bunn

Can Medifast's low-calorie diet work for you...while you're at work? The answer is, resoundingly, yes! Medifast's supplements are portable and usually can be prepared without cooking or in a microwave. Here's an example of how one Medifaster made it work at work.

One of the challenges I faced when starting Medifast was the fact that from 7:30 until 4:00 or later, I’m usually out of the house at my job.  I work for a large enough company that we have microwaves, water, and ice, but still, dealing with the supplements was something that I needed to figure out if I was going to succeed on Medifast.

My first step was to schedule my supplements into my work-day.  Like most, I have an AM and PM break, plus lunch.  Well, I first scheduled things so my second, third and fourth Medifast meals were at my lunch and break times.  That left me with a healthy breakfast, a Lean and Green dinner, and an evening supplement to round out my day.  The food was spaced evenly throughout the day and it helped me control my appetite.  I knew I could resist temptations if the next meal was only a few hours away.

Second, I made smart choices about what to have for those work-day Medifast supplements.  My morning break is usually a shake.  While my co-workers grab their coffee, pastries, breakfast sandwiches, or other food, I’m happily shaking up my drink and it works out well.  I got a few strange looks the first few times, but no one complains and I don’t have to spend a lot of time dealing with it.

For lunch, it was critical for me to have my supplement pre-mixed at home.  I could mix up the soup or chili in the morning and then I just have a few minutes at the microwave to heat it up during lunch.  Microwaves are popular resources at work and you don’t want to be standing there heating, stirring, heating again, stirring again, etc., when there is a crowd.  With it pre-mixed, you just heat and leave.

Afternoon break for me is one of a shake, bar, or the cappuccino.  Personally, the cappuccino tastes great and I enjoy using the daily bar for my evening snack.  But sometimes I mix it up and since there are so many choices with Medifast, I can keep things interesting.

The beauty of Medifast is that it is at once simple and varied.  You don’t have to think too much or count points or carbs.  Just plan what you’ll have and the diet can fit in to a busy work schedule.
