July 27, 2005 — Plano, Texas — Wellness International Network, Ltd. As Team Captain for her Wellness team in the RopaRun, a non-stop relay race from Rotterdam, in the Netherlands to Paris, France, Paulien finds her competitive edge is enhanced by using Winrgy®, Food For Thought™, Sure2Endure™ and Mass Appeal™. “I feel less muscle soreness after strenuous workouts, increased concentration and better overall,” she says.
Last year, her team consisted of 25 people: eight runners, four bikers (including herself) and 13 support members to maintain the health needs of the athletes during the incredibly long (31-41 hours) event. “You hardly get any sleep because you are biking multiple times, day and night, through rough terrain,” she explains. “It’s a hard but exhilarating test for your physical condition.”
During the 329-mile competition, teams relentlessly race against the clock to beat the RopaRun time allowed to finish each segment. “If I hadn’t taken WIN’s products, I would have been exhausted after my first ride through the mountains and don’t think I would have been able to complete the other four,” Paulien recalls, adding that she was able to maintain her focus on navigating the course. “If you miss one part you can really get lost and if you don’t finish the segment in the allotted time, the whole team is disqualified.”
Paulien and her team were one out of 189 to finish the race and actually beat the allotted time by an hour! “I had tears in my eyes because of bond that formed within our team over a few days,” she says. On top of finishing the race, more than $3.3 million was raised from the event, benefiting cancer patients. Overwhelmed by what they had accomplished, Paulien is eager to do it all over again this year!
