TempurPedic Mattress- Luxury Bedding from Memory Foam

Luxury bedding has been in the news recently. The associated press put out a story on March 10, 2007 describing the trend towards high-end, luxury mattresses. Sometimes costing upwards of $49,000, the mattresses are a sign that companies are betting that weary baby boomers will bear any cost for a good night's rest.

The trend towards higher end mattresses has been underway for over a decade, and leading the way has been TempurPedic International. The company has grown from infomercials to retail establishments and now Relax The Back, a leading posture and back fitness company, is marketing the TempurPedic mattress.

The Tempurpedic memory foam mattress has been with us for nearly twenty years. The image of the conforming memory foam sinking-in just the right amount is very familiar to us all. The mattress is componsed of a network of memory cells that soften depending on pressure and temperature. The result is a conforming surface that aims to eliminate pressure points and the desired result is akin to sleeping on air. The Tempurpedic mattress material is superior to other memory foams due to the material density and increase durability.

Like any high-performing health system, there are a few guidelines to keep in mind. First, the matteress is, in some ways, only as good as its foundation. As you consider a luxury bedding mattress, take care to consider the foundation as well. The extra expense is well worth it, and in fact, Tempurpedic makes the foundation a key consideration of any warranty claims. Heating pads and electic blanets are not recommended due to the potential of the high heat to damage the mattress.

The mattresses fall in a price range of approximately $2000 to $4000. These are definitely not the cheapest products on the block, but this is clearly a luxury item. However, the price reflects the research and innovative technology that goes into each mattress. While certainly not an entry-level mattress, on the other hand, it does not reach the realm of hand stitching and exotic material that some of the $5000 and over mattresses offer.

It is hard to underestimate the importance of a good night's sleep. When you were in college hitting the books, if you pulled an "all-nighter" (and who hasn't?), you were just as ineffective the next day as if you were legally intoxicated. The repairing and rejuvenating functions of sleep just cannot be gained any other way. Without a decent night's sleep, you are less focused, you gain weight, and you are simply not the person that you want to be. The epidemic of sleep deprivation has many sources, including our busy lifestyles and several medical causes. In the last few years, we've turned our eye to the lumpy mattress we use day in and day out. When you consider that 1/3 of your life is spent on a mattress, maybe it's worth considering an upgrade to a higher quality unit.

Everything you said about your sleep systems is true. I have muscular dystrophy, chronic back and shoulder pain and with my old mattress I was lucky if I got 2-3 hours of sleep
